1979 Yamaha RD400 Daytona Special 2-Fer

This is a kind of interesting auction. While neither bike is a specifically a built cafe racer, a guy in Ohio is auctioning off this pair of RD400 Daytona Specials. The one that’s a runner appears to be in good shape with a number of new parts, while the fixer/parts-bike has a bunch of included parts that need to be installed (or it needs to be parted out). It seems to me that a good end for this auction would be if the winner rode the bike that’s running, and converted the rough fixer into a cafe. And then they sent some pics to the blog. 🙂

There are 4 days left in the auction, but nobody has started bidding yet. The opening bid will need to be $3K, but it is a no-reserve auction…

1976 Yamaha RD400 Kenny Roberts Replica

Is this a cafe racer? Not really.

Is it ultra-cool? Absolutely!!!

This is a really well-done Kenny Roberts replica that has been made street legal to boot. The look is there, and the seller’s description claims that the bike is fully mechanically sound (“IT RUNS PERFECTLY WITH A ONE KICK START”). Overall, this is one great bike up on the eBay auction block.

Bidding is currently at $4K on the nose with the next bid supposedly breaking the reserve. There are almost 4 days left in the auction with 14 bidders. If you’ve got +$5K burning a hole in your pocket, this bike could be yours…

1976 Yamaha RD400 Cafe Racer

And now back to actual cafe racers…

Up on eBay with about 2 days left is the 1976 Yamaha RD400 that has been nicely styled as a cafe racer with the addition of clubman bars, a fiberglass seat bonded to the original seat pan, and rear-sets from an R6. On the performance front, the seller claims the entire motor and transmission have been gone through, there’s been some mild porting, he has DG pipes on the bike, and it has a steering damper for landing the all to common wheelies I’m sure this bike is capable of hoisting. All in all a beautiful build-up of a cafe racer, although I’m sure I’ll get at least one comment about there being too much red on the bike… /:-\

Unlike the last listing, this seller has an extremely good feedback rating. I would say you could bid with confidence on this bike…

Yamaha RD350/400 Cafe Racer

Very nice! But no title. Not an issue in every state or country, but I don’t know if I would want to try importing it to California.

I think this bike is super sweet looking. I love the colors and how clean the motor is (the overall build as well). I’m not a two-stroke fan, but this might just convert me…
