Harley Davidson XLCR (not stock – Yeah!)

Finally! My wish has come true. Someone selling a 1977 HD XLCR with which they valued having a ride-worthy bike more than a “collectible” museum piece. This seller claims to have a motor built out of aftermarket parts (no Harley shite as an original rebuild using those parts didn’t work out so well for the seller). Not only is the engine gone through, but it has Ohlins shocks, Progressive fork springs, and stainless steel brake lines.

Now for the bad news. The stock drag-bar was replaced with some funky chromed pseudo-superbike bars (they actually look a bit taller than that). That’s it. There doesn’t appear to be any other bad news. And the auction is currently only at $5,500 with two days left (reserve not yet met). So if you are willing to replace the bars with something more suitable, or if the higher bars are more to your liking, this might be a perfect XLCR for the discerning AMF collector or aficionado! Good luck with the auction!

1999 Harley Sportster Cafe Racer

Ahhh. This is what I want my bike to become. I’m not going to bother going through all the specs on this one, because pretty much everything’s been done. The highlight, though, is the Storz tank. Too bad Storz doesn’t make one of those road racing tanks for the 2004-present Sportsters.

However, I do have a question for the owner of this bike. Why is the picture of the Ohlins shocks on a bike with a chain and closed end Supertrapp vs. the other three pictures being belt-drive and open-end Supertrapp? I actually have the same black Progessive 15″ shocks on my Sporty, and although they probably don’t control the rear wheel quite as the Ohlins, they are 1.5″ longer for added ground clearance. 🙂

The owner commented via a question I sent to him on eBay. Here’s his response, or you can read it as the actual comment he sent to the blog…

Hi,
I am the owner of the 99 Cafe. Sorry for the confusion. The pic with the PS shocks is an older one that I used because it was a good pic, sunny day and full profile shot (and frankly, I forgot that I had the newer Ohlins and chain drive since it was taken) 🙂

Sportster Cafe Racer

What is up with me today? (XLCR?!?!?)

Is it Harley day or what? I just found this bike. It’s local to me, too. Too bad I can’t afford it… 😦

For those of you who have ever seen the movie “Black Rain”, this bike was the star (not Catherine Zeta-Jones’s husband). However, this particular version has some nice upgrades that are very sweet! Ohlins shocks, Progressive fork springs, braided lines, and a rebuilt motor. Nice details like a drilled rear rotor, also.

I wish Harley (and other manufacturers) would build bikes like this. Wait… They do! Thruxton, GB500, etc. :-/
