1968 Honda CB350 Cafe Racer

I’ve got one of these in my garage right now taken apart down to the smallest part, and I can only hope that I am able to finish building it into something like this. Mine is actually an SL350, but same difference pretty much.

This particular cafe racer has some nice upgrades both aesthetically and mechanically. The most obvious things are the tank, seat, and paint. I’m a fan of brightly colored frames with fairly muted paint on the bodywork, and this bike delivers. The only issue is that it shoes off the lack of side covers and the placement of the seat on top of the subframe.

However, the lack of side covers does show off one of the mechanical upgrades, and that’s the Boyer electronic ignition. No points is cool! It also has new Mikuni carbs, and the motor has been gone through with new parts and a valve job. The rearsets are made from RC-51 parts, and the wheels appear to be 18″ front and rear, but no verification on that in the seller’s description.

This is one of the more reasonably priced cafe racers to come up for sale on eBay lately. The Buy-It-Now price is only $2,000, and bidding is currently at $1,000 with only 2 days left. Good luck if you are interested in going after this bike!

1974 Norton Commando MKII Roadster 850

Here’s a beautiful, clean, and non-restored Norton Commando cafe racer. The price is currently a low $3,150 with 2 1/2 days left in the auction. The seller has it listed on craigslist for $4,100, so I suspect the reserve is no higher than the craigslist price.

I focused on the price first, because the pics tell most of the story. However, there is more to the story. The seller is honest about the flaws on this bike, which include a small amount of road rash from a low speed dump and a couple of instances of cracked glass (speedo and headlight). It also has some nice upgrades other than the cafe racer aesthetics including electronic ignition, new headers, and an RGM brake system.

What’s especially nice about this bike is that it is very representative of a true British cafe racer. And honestly, the only aesthetic thing that has been done to this bike is the conversion to clubman bars. Damn, I wish I could afford this bike!

1976 Moto Guzzi 850 LeMans

Sorry for the break from the blog, but I was busy. What can I say?

Up for auction right now on eBay is this really clean, pretty-but-not-truly-restored, Le Mans 850. It has almost 40K miles on it, but the odometer reads only 14K. The suspension is upgraded, and the engine has some upgraded electronics, so it should be a great ride once the carbs are gone through. Cosmetically, I like the bike overall, but I’m not a fan of Corbin seats (looks or sitting on them). The seller admits the bikes current issues and shortcomings in the listing, so if you are interested, click through and check them out.

There are 4 days left in the auction, with one bidder and the price currently at $5K. This seems like a decent bike that could use a good home, but the price seems like it might be a bit on the high side.

1972 Honda CB175 Cafe Racer

For just a moment I need you to enter a zen place. Clear your mind of garish race decals and see for a moment a plain black cafe racer. One that is diminutive in stature, but built to a high level of spec and to be either raced or ridden on the street.

Okay, now take a look at the bike below…

What we have here is a 1972 Honda CB175 that has been cafe’d to within an inch of its life. The seller of this bike has built an AHRMA race-legal motorcycle but kept the lights and license plate. This little CB has just about everything you could want in a stylish cafe racer: clip-ons, seat, nice spoked wheels, rear-sets, custom exhaust, etc., etc., etc. And since you are still in your zen place, you have overlooked the race decals and seen through them to the beautiful motorcycle beneath…
