New Feature on the Benjie’s Cafe Racer Site

I was surfing around tonight, and I noticed that the Benjie’s Cafe Racer site has a new feature: customer bikes. This is kinda cool, because it shows a couple of customer bikes that are a BCR seat with a stock tank (something a lot of us might actually do). Click on the pictures below to visit the BCR page that hosts the customer bikes. Props to Benjie and the cool bikes coming out of his shop!

1971 Honda CL350 Cafe Racer

This is a really nice little cafe racer. I say little with respect, as I will soon be starting on an SL350 cafe project, so I gotta give the small-bores their props. Additionally, this bike has been done up very cleanly and has a unique paint scheme to boot.

One of the things I like the most about this bike is the fact that no aspect of the chosen aesthetic (cafe racer) has been left out. Yes, it has a stock tank, but it has been painted suitably. It’s got a nice seat, clip-ons, and rear-sets even! And the paint job with the cream-colored frame is unique. I can’t recall having seen this before. Are there too many stickers on the tank? That’s for each of us to decide according to personal preference. But overall, a great build-up!

As I write this, it is only selling for $1,020, but reserve hasn’t been met and there are 4 days left in the auction. I am sure that this bike will end the auction well above…, hmmm, $2,500. But it’s impossible to know where the seller has set reserve. Your guess is as good as mine…

1974 Honda CB750 SOHC Cafe Racer

Here we have a cafe racer based on a 1974 Honda CB750 that has so much going right, and then a few things going a bit wrong. But before I get into that, I’ve got to say that it is for sale in a no-reserve auction, and the price is low right now, so keep that in mind.

First things first, the tank is sweet. Seller claims its heritage as having come from Carpy, which means it’s a choice piece of kit. It certainly looks nice, and is the nicest single thing on the bike. I also like the front end of the bike, with the clip-ons and large headlight creating that classic cafe silhouette. However, I’m not sure about the key mount. It seems like it could be simpler, but what do I know. And I like the seat, I think it just needs to be remounted a bit.

Overall, a decent cafe racer with some nice parts that just needs a few finishing touches (and some rear-sets (see the post from yesterday for some appropriate foot controls)). But with 5 days left in the auction and no reserve, it will be interesting to see what the auction closes at, and how much this bike is actually worth…
